Where Can I Get a PCR Test in Cancun?
Mexico is a beautiful country that offers many opportunities for travelers. However, there are a few precautions to take if you want to visit during the Covid-19 pandemic.
While Mexico has remained open during the pandemic and with minimal requirements, it can be complicated to go home without a PCR test. That’s why you’ll want to know where to get a PCR test in Cancun.
You’ll find several places all around Cancun that offer PCR tests to get home, and we’ll go over all the details in this guide.
Requirements to enter Mexico
There are currently no special requirements to enter Mexico, so anyone can enter, even unvaccinated travelers. Mexico is the right place for those who want to go abroad without getting tested for Covid-19.
That being said, it is important to note that you will have to pay the $48 occupancy tax which applies to all nationalities entering Quintana Roo. Although it sounds like a lot, you can get it very quickly on Visitax in a few minutes at most.
Do you need a PCR test to enter Mexico?
No, you do not need a PCR test or vaccination certificate to enter Mexico, nor do you need any other documents apart from your visa and tourist tax receipt if you are entering Quintana Roo.
How much does a PCR test cost in Cancun?
PCR tests in Cancun vary in price depending on the clinic you go to and whether you want to get tested at home or at the clinic. Overall, the average cost of a PCR test in Cancun is $MXN 2,500, or $US 118, and $MXN 3,000, or $US 141 for at-home testing. Finally, many hotels offer their guests free PCR tests, you may want to check with the front desk first.
How long does it take to receive the PCR test results?
Again, it depends on the clinic and the workload she has. But, as a rule, clinics will email you the results as quickly as 6 hours and up to 36 hours after the test.
Get a PCR test at Cancun airport
Getting a PCR test at Cancun airport is your most convenient choice. However, you may not be lucky if they are too busy with many other tourists or if you can’t find the test units.
In fact, PCR test units at Cancun airport are mobile and you’ll find them at every departure terminal. Apart from that, there are a few more details to note:
- They operate every day, only between 6:00 and 21:00
- You will receive your results in 30 to 60 minutes for antigen tests
- The results will be sent to you by email 24 to 48 hours after the test
- The cost of an antigen test is $MXN 290 per person – or just $USD 14
- The price of a PCR test is 2,000 MXN per person – 94 USD, cheaper than in Cancun
- Mobile units do not offer appointments – they operate on a first-come, first-served basis
These mobile units at the Cancun airport are indeed cheaper than the clinics downtown. However, you should note that they don’t have contact information, which means you’ll need to email them to the address listed on your test receipt.
We highly recommend heading to Cancun airport with your PCR test results ready to avoid getting stuck for any potential issues. Mobile units are your last option, just in the unfortunate case you haven’t been able to get tested before.
Get a PCR test in downtown Cancun
As mentioned earlier, some hotels, especially high-end hotels, offer free PCR tests to their guests, and others for a small fee. If you are staying in an apartment or hotel that does not offer PCR tests, this is where you can get tested:

- Rapid blood test: from 699 $MXN or 33 $USD
Prices vary depending on different factors, and we recommend contacting Costamed to have more information.
Laclicsa
Laclisa is one of the most popular clinics in Cancun for several reasons. While their PCR tests are slightly more expensive than other places, they are reliable and have modern facilities.
- PCR test: from $MXN 2,994 or $USD 150
- Antigen test: from $MXN 1528 or $USD 65
- Rapid blood test: from $MXN 999 or $50 USD

Hospiten
Hospiten is another medical institute where you can get tested for Covid-19. It is an international brand with branches in Spain, Jamaica, Panama, the Dominican Republic, and Cancun.
Although they offer several tests, they do not publicly display their prices and you will need to contact them or visit them in Cancun to find out the prices of their PCR tests.
Amérimé
Just like Hospiten, Amerimed Cancun doesn’t post its prices on its website, and instead, you’ll need to fill out an online form. Once this form is submitted, you will be contacted within the next 24 hours. So if you’re planning to take a last-minute test or scheduled shortly, Amerimed probably isn’t your safest bet.
